Sports Injury Doctor in Chennai

Same-day assessment of acute and overuse sports injuries, with a return-to-play plan built on testing rather than the calendar.

Dr. Pankaj Hingarh, MBBS, MS (Orthopaedics) T. Nagar, Chennai Digital X-ray on site

A sports injury handled well in the first week often needs no surgery at all. Handled badly — walked on, strapped up, played through — the same injury can end a season. The value of an early, accurate diagnosis is greater in sports medicine than almost anywhere else in orthopaedics.

The clinic sees the full spread of what Chennai plays: cricket shoulders and side strains, footballers’ ankle and ACL injuries, badminton and tennis overuse, runners’ knees and shin pain, and a rising volume of gym injuries from unsupervised heavy lifting.

Dr. Pankaj Hingarh’s fellowship covers both arthroplasty and sports medicine, which means acute injuries and their long-term joint consequences are managed by the same surgeon. Walk-in slots are held for acute injuries during both morning and evening consultation hours at T. Nagar.

Injuries we treat

  • Ankle sprains and recurrent ankle instability
  • ACL, PCL, MCL and meniscus injuries of the knee
  • Shoulder dislocation, labral tears and rotator cuff injury
  • Tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow and other overuse tendinopathy
  • Hamstring, calf and groin muscle tears
  • Shin splints, stress fractures and runner’s knee
  • Sports-related fractures and cartilage injuries

How we manage sports injuries

1

Assessment within 24–48 hours

Acute injuries are prioritised for same-day or next-day slots. Examining the joint before protective muscle spasm sets in gives the most accurate clinical picture.

2

Imaging only where it changes the plan

Digital X-ray on site; MRI arranged where a soft-tissue diagnosis would alter treatment. We do not scan reflexively.

3

Non-surgical first, where the tissue allows

Most sprains, tendinopathies and muscle tears heal with structured loading rather than surgery. Where regenerative treatment genuinely helps, PRP is offered.

4

Arthroscopic surgery when it is needed

Unstable ligaments, locked knees, recurrent dislocations and displaced fractures are addressed surgically, usually through keyhole techniques.

5

Return-to-play testing

Clearance is based on measured strength, hop and balance testing against the uninjured side — not on how many weeks have passed.

Questions

Sports Injury Treatment — your questions answered

Still unsure about something? Call +91 99622 45671 and ask.

How soon should I see a doctor after a sports injury?
Within 24–48 hours if there was a pop, rapid swelling, an inability to bear weight, visible deformity, or the joint giving way. Those five signs suggest structural injury that benefits from early diagnosis. Minor soreness that improves each day can reasonably be watched.
Do I need an MRI for every sports injury?
No. An MRI is warranted when examination suggests a ligament, meniscus or tendon tear whose confirmation would change what we do. Many injuries are diagnosed and treated on examination and X-ray alone.
Can PRP help a sports injury heal faster?
PRP has reasonable evidence in certain tendinopathies — tennis elbow and patellar tendinopathy in particular — and in some early cartilage and joint conditions. It is not a universal accelerator, and we will tell you plainly when your injury is not one it helps.
Do you treat gym and weight-training injuries?
Yes, and we see a growing number. Most involve the shoulder, lower back and knee, from progressing load too quickly or from technique errors. Treatment usually includes correcting the training programme, not only treating the tissue.
