Orthopaedic Trauma & Fracture Treatment in Chennai

Walk in with a suspected fracture and leave with a diagnosis and a plan — X-ray is on the premises.

Dr. Pankaj Hingarh, MBBS, MS (Orthopaedics) T. Nagar, Chennai Digital X-ray on site

A fracture needs two things quickly: an accurate picture of what has broken and how far it has moved, and a decision about whether the bone will heal in the position it is currently in. Get either wrong and you inherit a malunion — a bone healed crooked — which is far harder to correct later than it would have been to treat properly at the outset.

The single practical advantage here is that digital X-ray is on site. You are examined, imaged and treated in one visit rather than sent across town and asked to come back. For a suspected fracture, that difference is the whole experience.

Fractures do not have to be fixed within hours, but they should be assessed within hours. A fracture left for a week before anyone looks at it may already have begun healing in a poor position.

Our approach

The fracture pathway

01

Assessed and imaged on arrival

Suspected fractures are prioritised during consultation hours, with digital X-ray on the premises, so the fracture pattern is known within minutes.

02

Reduced and held

Displaced fractures are realigned under appropriate anaesthesia and held in a cast or splint, with a check X-ray confirming the position before you go home.

03

Fixed surgically where the bone needs it

Unstable, displaced, intra-articular and open fractures are fixed with plates, screws or nails at affiliated hospitals, allowing earlier movement and better final function.

04

Followed until union is confirmed

Serial X-rays at defined intervals confirm the bone is uniting in position, so problems are caught while they are still correctable.

Questions

Trauma & Fracture — common questions

Anything not covered here, call +91 99622 45671.

How do I know if a bone is broken or just sprained?
Often you cannot without an X-ray. Suggestive signs are inability to bear weight or use the limb, visible deformity, bone tenderness at one specific point, and swelling that appears within minutes rather than hours. If in doubt, get it imaged.
Can I walk in without an appointment for a fracture?
Yes. Suspected fractures are prioritised during consultation hours — 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday to Saturday. Calling +91 99622 45671 ahead helps us prepare, but you do not need an appointment.
When should I go straight to a hospital instead?
Go directly to a hospital emergency department for an open wound over the fracture, a limb that is numb, cold, pale or blue, a suspected spine, pelvis or hip fracture, a high-speed accident or fall from height, or any head injury with confusion or drowsiness.
How long does a fracture take to heal?
Broadly, upper-limb fractures unite in about six weeks and lower-limb fractures in eight to twelve. Age, smoking, diabetes and the blood supply to the specific bone all change that considerably. Smoking in particular delays union.
